Lead the solutions when the earth doesn’t stand still

The Work Only a PDE Can Do

Most people never think about the challenges happening beneath their feet — but you do. You’ve built a career recognizing what others can’t see and solving problems long before they become disasters.

That’s what we do too. We hire engineers for many roles, but the ones who make the biggest impact are the ones standing face-to-face with our customers: the town dealing with a washed-out road, the community worried about a slope slipping toward their homes, or the mining operation that can’t move equipment because the ground won’t cooperate.

PDEs feel it every day, when a customer turns to you and asks, “What do we do?” that trust means everything. You’re the one who listens, sketches out real options, engineers a solution they can count on, and helps get it built. It takes a steady hand, a sharp mind, and a special kind of engineer to step into a role like this. Someone who’s ready to make an impact when it matters most.

Let’s Build Together

“I came from consulting — I didn’t want to be stuck behind a desk. Here, I see the whole picture.”

It’s More Than Engineering – It’s Impact

With three business lines, our engineers are tested across a variety of engineering challenges. And when natural disasters happen, we help travel, communities, commerce and energy move again. You won’t be doing the standard work here, it’s a whole lot more.

“It’s different than typical Geotech work. These are exciting projects that keep communities moving. It makes me proud to be a part of it – finding ways to get things done, saving them money. I’m not just spinning up 3D models all day, I’m solving real problems.”

Your Creativity. Your Expertise. Your Market. Your Way.

You get the best of all worlds in a PDE role here: a company that’s growing BECAUSE we stay entrepreneurial, but one that’s big enough to bring you systems, tools, partners, and collaborations to help you succeed. You get to design your life around your job – you win, we win, customers win.

“I thought GSI would be too ‘big company,’ but it’s like I’m building my own franchise here. There’s flexibility in how I approach the market I already know, and I get support without micro-management. I travel less that I used to, sell in a way that’s comfortable for me as an engineer, and have more time with my family.”

A Team of Experts – Solutions That Win

There’s no standard project here. You won’t just design and let someone else figure out how to deliver. We ARE delivery, so we’ll help you engineer in constructability, and then work with team members in our Project Management Office, Operations, Safety, and other teams to ensure the solution you design gets built, and our customers are happy.

You meet the people in your area and evaluate opportunities. We help you design, capture, and deliver. We don’t just engineer; we build reputation and solutions.

“Every job is unique – blank slate at the beginning. I have mentors that help show me the way, and teammates I work closely with to get through each stage, manage projects, and get the construction work done after we win bids. We show up, we figure it out, the customer gets what they need.”

Compensation Upside and Transparency

If you’re an engineer, you’re already part of the selling chain: a problem happens, it needs to be fixed, it requires a plan, and someone has to decide whether that plan will solve it. You’re already in that problem-solving flow, but in this role, you’ll see and influence far more of the process.

The needs are everywhere. We’ll show you how to spot them, how to leverage the team inside GSI to pursue them, and how to use your engineering and people skills to win work. When you do, you’ll earn more than you ever could in a traditional design job. The pay structure is straightforward and transparent, and if you enjoy client interaction, this is a natural next step. You’ll simply be getting rewarded for work you’re likely already doing.

Selling here isn’t about becoming something you’re not. It’s about using the skills, instincts, and experience you already have.

“I wasn’t sure about being commissioned, but the structure is straightforward. I get base pay, a percentage of what I sell. It’s very transparent. Driving proposals, landing jobs, making more money – it gets the blood flowing, and I’m growing in ways I never thought I could.”

Earning Trust, Delivering Results, For Real Human Beings

You will certainly interface with a lot of engineers as a PDE who work for a huge variety of entities. Those are often your initial point of contact for new business. But it’s the others, the non-engineers, who will rely on you to understand what’s happening, what the primary factors are, how the problem can be solved, and when. You build trust every step of the way.

Working with communities and their public representatives is an amazing part of this job, and it gets personal and real because of what’s at stake. You won’t just sell construction services. You’ll be a lifeline to a return to normal.

“I work with engineers, but also county representatives, contractors, even city councils. I’m the expert in a lot of those situations. I get to bring grace, tact and assurance to people in very difficult times. Earning that trust is one of the best parts of my job.”
